The Institute for Politics, Democracy & the Internet (IPDI) studies the role of the Internet in politics with a view to improving citizen participation, enhancing democratic values and promoting better governance. It also runs seminars and conferences on using the new media in politics, including the annual Politics Online conference, at which the Golden Dot awards for excellence in online campaigning are awarded.
The IPDI is part of the Graduate School of Political Management at George Washington University. It was established in 1998 as the Democracy Online Project, and re-chartered in 2002 as an institute under its current name.
